What is Sezzle? Sezzle is a payment solution that empowers you to “Shop Now and Pay Later” with simple, interest-free installment plans. We break down the total cost of your purchase into smaller payments, spread over at least six weeks. As little as 25% is due at the time of the purchase, with the remaining amount spread out over equal installments (typically three), each two weeks apart. No interest or processing fees are charged to you - as long as you pay everything off on time, you only pay for what you ordered! When you complete a purchase with Sezzle, the merchant ships your product immediately - so you get to enjoy your item before you’re finished paying for it! Sezzle automates the remaining payments through whichever payment method you have on file, with text and email reminders before each payment is processed. You can always log into your account and change your payment method, and each order can have payments rescheduled twice, with the first one free! Additionally, if you want to pay off your orders early, you can do so at no extra cost.

No interest or processing fees are charged to you - as long as you pay everything off on time, you only pay for what you ordered! Once you’re ready to check out, select Sezzle as a payment method. Returning customers will log in, and new customers will need to create an account and provide a payment method. After you’re approved and you complete checkout, the merchant will ship your products just like they would with any other payment method. You will be notified at checkout what sort of payment plan you’re approved for, including how much is due upfront and when the next payments will be due. While our goal is to be able to approve every order, there are some situations where we might not be able to approve your order.

Here are some things to consider if you order wasn’t approved:

  • Do you have sufficient funds available? Typically, we check to make sure you have at least 25% of the total order cost available at the time the order is placed.
  • Length of time using Sezzle. Usually, we are less restrictive after the first six weeks.
  • The overall amount outstanding on previous orders and number of orders still open. If there are multiple orders with outstanding payments, and/or a majority is still outstanding on a previous order, paying those off can help increase your likelihood of approval.
  • Overall value of your new order. Reducing the order amount, or splitting it into smaller transactions, can help!
  • Payment methods linked to your account. Adding another debit card or a credit card can help us better understand your repayment ability, which can help get orders approved!

 

Who can use Sezzle? To use Sezzle, you must be 18 years or older (19 years or older in Alabama or if you are a ward of the state and live in Nebraska) and have a valid U.S. mobile number and email address. If you’re worried about credit checks, don’t worry! Sezzle doesn’t qualify as a credit product per United States regulations (Reg Z), so there is no “hard credit check” processed.


When do I make my first payment? Your first payment is due at the time of checkout. During checkout, you will be told exactly how much will be charged, which can be as little as 25% of the total order cost.

 

What's the catch? There’s no catch! Sezzle is completely interest-free for shoppers. Merchants pay us a fee, so you can Shop Now and Pay Later. The only fees you might encounter are failed payment fees or rescheduled payment fees. If your scheduled payment fails to process, you will be charged a $10 fee (this fee is separate from any fees your bank may charge). Typically, this happens when there’s not enough funds in the account or if the card has been cancelled. We do send text and email reminders to try and prevent this from occurring. While each order comes with one free reschedule, the second one does cost $5. If a fee has been incurred, it will be added on to the overall amount of the next installment. Please note, once a fee has been paid, we have no way to reverse it.

 

Does Sezzle perform a Credit Check? Sezzle’s extended payment option is not a credit product per United States regulations (Reg Z). However, we do still look at your credit score as part of our risk check. This does not have an impact on your credit - this is often referred to as a “soft check.” We use this information to help approve you for Sezzle, verify your identity, and help minimize fraud risk.

 

What is the checkout process like? We’ve made checkout fast and easy! Simply select Sezzle at checkout, and either log back in or create the account and add a payment method. We do secure checkout by sending a one time-password to your phone, so please make sure your phone is nearby! Our system will then look at the order and make a decision on whether or not we’re able to approve you. If approved, you’ll see a breakdown of how much is due upfront, as well as when future payments will be due and the amount due. Proceed through the rest of the process, and you’re good to go! This process typically takes less than two minutes for new customers, and just a couple of seconds for returning customers! You’ll receive confirmation through your email, and you can always log in to your Sezzle dashboard to check on the payment amounts and due dates. 

 

Is Sezzle secure? We believe security is critically important. We undergo quarterly scans and yearly audits for the highest level of compliance in the Payment Card Industry (PCI) to ensure that your data is safely stored in our systems. We are currently certified at the top level of compliance - PCI Level 1.
